When Preparing for Hurricane Season, Don't Forget Your Medical Needs
08/03/2012

Southerners know preparation is key if we find ourselves in the path of a storm.

When putting together your hurricane supplies, make sure you have an up-to-date first aid kit and at least a three to five-day supply of any prescription medications you may need.

Does anyone in your family have special medical needs? Take that into consideration when putting together your kit as well. Epi-pens, diabetic supplies and allergy shots are just a few examples of necessities you may need post-hurricane.

The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) encourages every Louisiana citizen to be prepared for the 2012 Hurricane Season. GOHSEP's Get a Game Plan website (www.getagameplan.org) provides a resource for families, businesses and even kids to learn how to be prepared.

Hurricane season began on June 1st and lasts until November 30th. Be prepared!
