OLOL Doctor Removes Gallbladder Robotically With Single, Minimally Invasive, Virtually Scarless Incision
05/31/2012

Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center is among the first hospitals in the nation where patients can have their gallbladders removed with minimally invasive robotic assistance, leaving a virtually no scar.  The technique also allows patients less pain, less bleeding and faster recovery. Traditional robotic surgeries may require three to four incisions. This procedure is completed with one incision through the navel and usually takes about one hour followed by a two-hour hospital stay.

Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group's Dr. Mark Hausmann is among the first surgeons in the country to perform single site robotic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), and was the first to perform the procedure in South Louisiana. He is one of only 40 surgeons in the country trained to perform this procedure. For surgeons, the benefits include better visualization and more precision.

"As a surgeon, I am always looking for ways improve the surgical experience for my patients and by completing specialized training to complete single-incision gall bladder removal, I can offer patients a procedure with minimal pain and a minimal scar," said Dr. Hausmann. "This procedure is another way Our Lady of the Lake is leading the way in robotic and minimally invasive
surgery."

Dr. Hausmann speaks more about the benefits of the procedure in this short video on YouTube.
