Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOL) announced plans for
several significant facility renewal projects, including the renovation of
more than 200 patient rooms and intensive care units. The renewal projects
are part of the hospital’s Vision 2020 plan to continue the Franciscan
Missionaries of Our Lady legacy of healthcare and prepare the facility for
serving the next generation and beyond. OLOL’s current Essen Lane facility
was built in 1978. Major components of the plan are valued at $200 million
and expected to be implemented by the year 2010.
Vision 2020 Progress Report
In 2005 Our Lady of the Lake began a long-term
facility improvement plan and we are pleased to report the following progress.
Complete
- The addition of 30 new, modern patient rooms
dedicated to orthopedic care and Lake Joint Effort, OLOL’s nationally
recognized knee and hip replacement program.
- The opening of 10 additional beds in the fast track wing of our
Emergency Department to expedite patient care and reduce wait times.
- 41 rooms in Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center have been renovated
for increased patient comfort.
- The addition of an intensive care (ICU) dedicated to trauma and
neurosurgical patients.
- The opening of a new Electrophysiology
Laboratory for the latest in pacemaker care.
- The addition of two floors to our Main Parking Garage to expand
convenient parking for our guests.
In Progress
- Renovations to an additional 35 rooms of the main hospital.
- Enhancements to our Emergency Department triage area to further
improve patient flow.
- 25 new and enlarged Same Day Surgery bays.
The Vision 2020 renovation plan emphasizes six major
areas:
- Renovation of Patient Rooms- Two hundred
patient rooms increased by 100 square feet. New design better
accommodates the needs of patient, family and clinical caregivers.
- Renovation of Intensive Care Units- 30
percent more space for patients in the redesign of four Intensive Care
Units.
- Expanded Operating Rooms- Two story
addition to existing St. Mary’s Tower for expanded operating suites.
- New Imaging Capability- State-of-the-art
imaging capabilities including new 64-slice CT scanner and larger MRI.
Filmless technology available throughout the hospital, 24/7.
- New OLOL Heart Center Tower- Conveniently
houses all cardiac services: diagnostic, surgical, inpatient and
support.
- New OLOL Children’s Hospital with Expand Pediatric
Services- Overall pediatric capacity increases 50 percent
and addition of new pediatric emergency department.
Vision 2020 begins with the patient room renovations which will be
completed in phases over the next few years. Room renovations are a key
part of the hospital’s vision and commitment to patient care. New rooms
will allow for the most up-to-date advances in technology including bar
coding, medical record charting, diagnosis and treatment to be seamlessly
integrated into patient care. The new, larger patient rooms will also
feature amenities such as flat panel televisions, wood-grain floors and
patient armoires.
While approved
in concept, the Heart Center Tower and Children’s Hospital will be refined in
design through the participation and joint planning of physicians and hospital leadership. These
major projects are expected to break ground in 2007. |
