Methemoglobinemia - acquiredDefinition: Methemoglobin is an abnormal form of hemoglobin which is unable to transport oxygen. Methemoglobinemia can be an inherited disorder, but it also can be acquired through exposure to chemicals such as nitrates (nitrate-contaminated water), aniline dyes, and potassium chlorate.
